The difference between brush battery chainsaw and brushless battery chainsaw

Increasingly popular, battery chainsaws are not dependent on power cords, portable, moveable, small and light.

But how do you choose a battery chiansaw? Today we will share with you the right way to choose a lithium battery chainsaw and the knowledge points.

One of the core components in power tools is called the motor, which drives all power tools. Depending on the motor, electric tools are divided into brushless electric tools and brushed electrical tools.

With the development of power tools, wired power tools, which depends on electricity source, no longer meet more needs of people, such as fast moving work places, pruning work of high trees, pruning work of large vineyards, other large agriculture planting, the length of the power cord is not possible to accomplish these work areas, in recent years lithium battery chainsaw tools are becoming popular, and Nicelyon as among the first batch of manufacturers and wholesalers to entering the lithium chainsaw industry, Nicelyon has gained a significant experience within the lithium battery chainsaw industry, if you would like to learn more about how to make the right choice, please continue...

    What is brush and brushless?

  • Firstly,we need to know what is a carbon brush? Carbon brushes are mainly made of carbon. It works like a brush on a revolving part and that's why it's called a carbon brush whose main material is graphite.
  • What is graphite?First we learn about the main material of carbon brush - graphite. Graphite is a natural product. Its bases is carbon, non-transparent, black with submetallic luster, low hardness. The composition of graphite and diamond are both carbon but their properties are quite different. This is due to the different arrangement of carbon atoms.

    Although graphite is composed of carbon, it is a high temperature resistant material. Its melting point reaches 3652 ° C. Using this high temperature resistant feature, graphite can be processed into a high temperature resistant crucible.

    Graphite conducts electricity very well, surpassing many metals. Therefore, it is made into conductive parts such as electrodes and carbon brushes. The internal structure of graphite determines its good lubricity. We often put pencil ash or graphite in rusted door locks, so that it is much easier to open the door. This is the lubrication effect of graphite.

    But don't think that graphite can only be used for basic products such as pencil leads. Now, graphene, a new material extracted from graphite, you must have heard of it. It has become the hottest new technology material in the world. Many high-tech products are now applied to it。

  • Carbon brushes are generally used on DC appliances.For example, the refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners used in our homes do not have brushes. This is because the AC motor does not need a constant magnetic field, so there is no need for a commutator and no carbon brush.

    What is brushed motor

  • All motors are composed of a stator and a rotor. In a DC motor, in order to make the rotor turn, it is necessary to constantly change the direction of the current, otherwise the rotor can only turn half a circle. It's like pedaling a bicycle, only half a circle on one foot. So the DC motor needs to change the current in the rotor, that is, commutate the energized conductors when needed.

    The commutator is composed of two semicircles, and the joints are separated by insulating materials, and the two sections of the commutator are respectively connected with the carbon brush. The carbon brush is repeatedly connected to the section of the commutator that needs to be pushed. So repeatedly, the motor started to turn.

    Brushed motors are mechanically commutated. The outer magnetic pole does not move and the inner magnetic coil moves. When the motor is working, the commutator and the coil rotate together, and neither the carbon brush nor the magnetic steel move. So the commutator and the carbon brushes generate friction to switch the current direction.

    In the brushed motor, the coils of each group are arranged in a ring, and they are separated from each other by insulating materials to form a cylindrical shape that is integrated with the motor shaft. The power supply passes through two carbon brushes, which are pressed on the coil under the pressure of the spring, and each group of coils can be energized by rotating under the carbon brushes.

    As the motor rotates, energize different coils or different stages of the same coil. So that the coils generate a magnetic field and the poles have an angle with the poles close to the permanent magnet stator.

    Advantages: low cost, fast speed;

    Disadvantages: loud noise, need maintenance, short life.

    What is brushless motor

    Brushless DC motors are electronically commutated. Instead of commutators and carbon brushes, position sensors are used. It is mainly composed of a permanent magnet rotor, a multi-stage winding stator and a position sensor. The position sensor energizes the adjacent stator coils according to the position and magnetic pole of the rotor, so that the stator generates magnetic poles that attract the rotor, which can attract the rotor to rotate. Repeat to push the motor to turn.

    Advantages: low noise, high strength, maintenance-free, long life;

    Disadvantages: slow speed (but can be increased by kinetic energy conversion).

     Important differences between brushless and brushed motors

The difference between brushed motors and brushless motors is that apart from carbon brushes, brushed motors are controlled by gears, which will increase the motor repair rate. The brushless motor does not need to use gears, does not require frequent maintenance, and has a higher service life and higher reliability. However, the control system cost of the brushless motor will be higher than that of the brushed motor. In addition, the noise of the brushed motor is relatively large, while the brushless motor is much quieter, and the working efficiency will be higher.

Carbon brushes play a very important role in DC motors. Carbon brushes conduct current between the moving parts of the motor, and this conduction is a sliding conduction. The rotating part that transmits the current from the fixed end to the generator or motor, consists of several carbon brushes that form a carbon frame. Therefore, this conduction method also causes the carbon brush to be easily worn. The carbon brush also has the function of changing the direction of the current, that is, commutation.

Carbon brushes are also used on AC equipment. The shape and material of the AC motor carbon brush and the DC motor carbon brush are the same. AC motors use wound rotors and require variable speed, so carbon brushes are required. Such as our commonly used hand drills, polishing machines also need to change carbon brushes frequently, and its role is also very important.

In summary:

     Because brushless motors have many advantages, especially for some hand tools and electric bicycles, there are more and more products using brushless motors on the market. The era of talking about carbon brushes is coming to an end, and brushed motors will also be eliminated.

So, when electric tools slowly enter people's lives, lithium battery electric tools appear, directly because the type of motor is categorized into two main types: brushless and brushed.

In short, if you need a more cost-effective lithium battery chainsaw, it is recommended that you choose a brushless motor, which discards the disadvantages of a brushed chainsaw and inherits more advantages.
