An electrical chainsaw is a portable wood cutting machine with electrical power, also called as electrical chain saw.

It was only in the early 1950s that electric chainsaw were widely used in logging operations due to improvements in construction and performance. The Soviet Union was the country that used the most chainsaws. Japan and some other countries are also experimenting with new chainsaws to replace petrol chainsaws.
Most of the commonly used chainsaws in the world are single operator, weighing 5 to 10 kg, with motor power not exceeding 3 kW.
In 1954, China imported a batch of "Tzniemi (ЦHИИМЭ) K-5" chainsaws from the Soviet Union, which were mainly used for timber making operations.
1957, Changchun Electric Tool Factory started to make its own M2L2-950 chainsaws, and after the 70s, it produced M3L2-950 and M3L-950 chainsaws.
By the end of the 1980s, chainsaws were still commonly used in timber storage yards in various forest areas.
